In-Vitro Fertilisation- Embryo Transfer (IVF-ET)
Embryo Transfer
D5 blastocyst
Embryo Transfer
The patient will be put into a lithotomy position. A speculum is put into the vagina. The cervix will be gently cleansed. 1-2 embryos after 2-5 days of culture will be transferred under ultrasound guidance to the inside of the womb.
D5 Blastocyst Transfer
- Wait till day 5 and choose one better developing embryo and do blastocyst transfer. This will improve the success rate while minimizing multiple pregnancy rates, although there is still a small chance of splitting and results in monozygotic twins. The better success rate may also result from the better co-ordination between the embryos and the lining of the womb, by waiting for 3 more days.
-
The rest of the embryos would be frozen for use in subsequent cycles. The downside is that there is decrease in the number of embryos for freezing. Some may even not have any embryo that has the potential to develop to blastocyst stage for transfer.
